Steve Miller

Steve is a social entrepreneur, community activist and consultant; and the founder of many organisations including Tzedek-the UK Jewish Community’s response to global poverty. He has been closely involved with Limmud since the early 1980s and has taught in Jewish communities across the UK and Europe.

War & Peace in Jewish texts

Using the stunning Limmud study anthology we will study a variety of Jewish sources and perspectives on war and peace. All texts are available in Hebrew & English and no experience in traditional study is necessary

First Steps in Jewish Spirituality – a practical approach which is accessible to anyone

Jewish spirituality is simple (but not always easy!). Anyone can begin to explore their own Jewish spiritual path. This session will be participatory – be prepared to talk, think and reflect. No special knowledge is required – anyone can join whether you think you are religious or secular; knowledgeable or not.

Jewish obligations to help non-Jews

What does Jewish opinion says about our responsibility to others in need. What should we consider when faced with multiple demands on our time, energy and money? The answer will differ for different people but I hope to give some food for thought.

Daniella Mendel-Enk

Screenwriter, actress and script consultant Daniella Mendel-Enk (b.1977) has worked in various radio, TV and film productions since she began her career as an actress for Swedish Radio in 1988. In 2002 she started writing for and acting in comedy sketches for radio, and has since then successfully moved into television. With a talent for suspenseful drama and smart comedy with emphasis on complex characters and sharp dialogue, Mendel-Enk has gained vast experience from working in writers’ rooms, writing episodes for various television and film productions, among them feature film “Sune Vs Sune” (2018), the academy award nominated “Livet i Mattelandelandet” and the highly popular comedy drama “Solsidan” (Sunnyside).

Ricky har undervisat hebreiska under många år i Vasa Real och även nyligen på Paideias kvällskurs. Hennes undervisning i hebreiska i fjol var synnerligen populär och väl besökt. Hon älskar språket och tycker om att ha roliga språklektioner!

Annie Lööf är Centerpartiets partiledare sedan hösten 2011. Hon har varit riksdagsledamot sedan 2006, och under åren 2011 till 2014 var hon näringsminister i Alliansregeringen. Hon har på senare tid profilerat sig i frågor kring nazism och antisemitism.

Är Sverige naiv när det gäller antisemitismens påverkan av det demokratiska Sverige?

Nazister marscherar återigen på våra gator. Och gärna utanför synagogor. De uppträder i Almedalen och försöker erövra våra offentliga rum. Alltmedan opinionen debatterar yttrandefrihet och polisen försöker tolka lagen. Parallellt ser vi en ökad import av antisemitism från arabvärlden. Liksom att den poppar upp i länder som Ungern och Polen igen. I skolorna i Sverige ifrågasätter allt fler att Förintelsen ägt rum. Konspirationsteorier börjar bli vardagssanningar. Och i Malmö vittnar många om att de inte vågar bära vare sig kippa eller Davidsstjärna. Men kanske mest uppseendeväckande är att antisemitismen är en del av retoriken på sociala medier.Är det så att antisemitism börjar bli normaliserat, sakta och smygande?

Om detta blir det ett samtal mellan Centerledaren Annie Lööf, Naomi Abramowicz, ledarskribent på Expressen och Erik Helmersson, ledarskribent på Dagens Nyheter.

Roland Loefler

Roland Loefler arbetar med rådgivning och utveckling för ledare och ledningsteam, inom mest mångkulturella företag men också för organisationer, även judiska. Roland Loefler var under 70- och 80-talen med och organiserade många av de svenska och europeiskt koordinerade aktionerna för de judar som inte tilläts lämna Sovjetunionen.

Hur kommer det sig att judar ofta är framgångsrika, till exempel inom litteratur, medicin, High Tech, Start Ups och annan affärsverksamhet ? Varför är då så ofta kaos i judiska verksamheter ? Det låter ju som en paradox. Sedan 40 år hjälper Roland ledare, företag och organisationer i Europa att utveckla sin professionalism. Innan dess arbetade han under 5 år som chef för judiska organisationer. Här på Limmud presenterar han sina erfarenheter av kombinationen professionalism och judisk mentalitet.

Yariv Lapid

Yariv Lapid is Director of the Center for Humanistic Education at the Ghetto Fighters’ Museum Yariv Lapid studied history at the Hebrew University and the University of Hamburg. He worked at Israeli NGO’s specializing on issues of conflict, at YadVashem and at the Van Leer Institute in Jerusalem. From 2007 to 2013 he established and directed the education department at the Mauthausen Memorial in Austria. The focus of Yariv Lapid’s work has been the development of dialogue on the meaning of the Holocaust between societies with differing, and at times contradictory and competing collective memories. An important aspect has been the development of strategies for the reflection of evil actions and motivations as an aspect of normative human behaviour and their incorporation into a moral self-image.

A central challenge of Yariv Lapid’s work has been the integration of critical attitudes into national institutions, such as Yad Vashem in Israel and the MauthausenMemorial in Austria. From 2013 he is director of the Center for Humanistic Education at the Ghetto Fighters House, creating extensive dialogue programs with and for Arabs and Jews.

Dialogue programs with and for Arab and Jewish pupils

The Center for Humanistic Education (CHE) has been working within Ghetto Fighters’ Museum since 1995, tackling the two most sensitive issues in Israeli society – the Holocaust and the Arab-Israeli conflict. The Center engages high-school students and teachers.

Nathalie Lantz

Natalie Lantz är doktorand i Hebreiska bibelns exegetik vid Uppsala universitet och översättare av hebreisk skönlitteratur. Hennes senaste översättning, David Grossmans En häst går in på en bar, kom ut på Albert Bonniers Förlag under hösten 2017. Under 2018 publiceras hennes tolkning av Dan Pagis poesi i urval av Förlaget Faethon.

Natalies forskning fokuserar på tempelsymbolik i Dödahavsrullarna och i tidig rabbinsk litteratur. Hon är styrelseledamot i Forum för judiska studier, samt undervisar i rabbinsk litteratur vid Uppsala universitet. Under innevarande år är Natalie kulturkrönikör för Judisk krönika. Därtill producerar hon forskarseminarier och kulturevenemang med judisk tematik. Natalies intresse för hebreiska texter sträcker sig således från antika pergamentrullar till dagens litterära estrader i Jerusalem och Tel Aviv.

Hur gestaltar sig en judisk kunskapsbank i yrkeslivet som journalist och akademiker? Påverkar en judisk identitet ens yrkesroll och hur andra ser på en som professionell aktör.
