Semmy Stahlhammer

Mr. Stahlhammer was First Concertmaster at the Stockholm Royal Opera, teacher at the Stockholm Royal Music College. His CD anthology, Swedish Turn of the Century, was chosen as “Records of the year” by Dagens Nyheter. Semmy also leads the ”Stahlhammer Klezmer Classic Ensemble”, founded by Semmy’s grandfather around 1910, in Poland. Mr. Stahlhammer is a laureate of the Scandinavian Violin Competition in Helsinki, Finland, the Haddonfield competition in Philadelphia, USA, and the J.S. Bach International Violin Competition in Washington DC, USA. He has been awarded grants and prizes from the Ingemar Bergman Foundation, Léonie Sonning Foundation, Gabriel Urwitz Foundation, Wachtmeister Foundation, Ivar & Gertrude Philipssons Foundation,  Swedish Arts Grants Committee, Swedish Performing Arts Agency, Swedish Arts Council,  the Swedish Royal Academy of Music and the Sweden-America Foundation.

In his atelier in Stockholm he restores string instruments and has worked on instruments by Stradivarius and Guarnerius. He also works with various inventions, which have afforded him three patents. His book ”Codename Barber” (my fathers story) is published in Swedish by Albert Bonnier’s Publishing House. In 2010 it was published in English, and is translated into Russian, Hebrew and Chinese.
