The Story of YUNG YiDiSH

In 1990, Mendy Cahan started to collect Yiddish books in Israel. By gathering volunteers, intellectuals, artists and friends, he started an awareness campaign for Yiddish, which developed in several cultural centers, summer courses, festivals and a host of educational and artistic ventures and a holding of some 70.000 Yiddish volumes, all on a non-profit base. Today YUNG YiDiSH Tel Aviv is a vibrant cultural center, eclectic, traditional, avant-garde – embracing the versatility of Yiddish culture in particular, and of cultural creativity at large.
