Rabbi Lord Jonathan Sacks and Argument for the Sake of Heaven: The “sacred art” of debate

With social media, polarization, and incivility, how are we to engage in structured, reasoned, and respectful discourse with the “other”? We will approach this question by exploring the paradigmatic debate between Hillel and Shammai, and will consider commentary from Morality (2020), a work by Rabbi Lord Jonathan Sacks.  Following his thought, we will also study an example that suggests something of a contrast: Numbers 16:3 and the “infamous” episode of Korach.
