Commemorating the 80th anniversary of the liquidation of the Piotrków Ghetto, October 21-24, 1942, twenty-six members of Jan’s family gathered with other families to spend a shabbat in Piotrków. Jan will describe the sequence of events that took place during the commemoration, and he will highlight his 96-year-old father’s central role. Jan’s family’s trip to Poland will be situated in the historical context of the Piotrków landsmanshaft. In conclusion, he will discuss how the family trip is a powerful way to keep the memory alive of the Holocaust and pre-war Jewish life in specific communities.
