Many people have negative associations with conflict. Rabbinic Judaism, however, has always valued makhloket, or disagreement. The Talmud discusses thousands of makhloket—disputes among the rabbis, who viewed disagreement as a critical part of uncovering truth. The key is to engage in disputes in a constructive way;—one that increases mutual respect and preserves the relationship. “Disagreements for the sake of heaven” is rabbinic term is a Limmud Core Value.
